M.I.A. at Podval

Together with her husband Falko Brocksiepper, Michaela Grobelny, better known as M.I.A., is a co-owner of the label Sub Static, founded in 2000 in the cradle of German techno - Cologne. After numerous releases on Traum, Trapez, and her home label, she is rightfully considered one of the most respected minimal techno producers. M.I.A. first found herself behind the decks in the mid-90s and quickly earned a reputation as a good DJ in her hometown of Cologne. After a large number of remixes released for artists such as Contriva, The Modernist, Jake Fairley, Basteroid, Skua Lovelle, her first album 'shwarzweiss' was released in 2004 on the Substatic label, of course. Following the success of her first album, in 2005, M.I.A. began working on her live performance, which successfully passed the test by the best German clubs last summer. Currently, M.I.A. is preparing a new live show in support of her second album 'bittersuss', which is due to be released in March 2007, but this does not prevent her from occasionally performing as a DJ.
