Mombus to Perform at Sonar Festival

At the Sonar festival as part of the Red Bull Music Academy stage, Russian musician Mombus will perform. Behind the pseudonym Mombus is marine biologist Sergey Bakanov from Murmansk, working at the polar research institute and studying populations of Kamchatka crab and northern shrimp. He became fascinated with sampling as a childhood pastime back in the late '80s, using tape recorder reels for this purpose. Everything he does now is just a continuation of a journey he once started. Even after embarking on a scientific career, he did not abandon his music practice but developed his own creative methods and approaches. He combines sounds of radio and television broadcasts, rustling grass and leaves, the creaking of insects and crustaceans, the fizz of carbonated drinks, noise from electrical appliances and records, street sounds, street musicians and fountains, as well as sounds from trolleybuses and subways, airports, and train stations with the sound of live instruments such as flute, jaw harp, accordion, or balalaika.
Mombus has participated in an impressive number of various Russian compilations dedicated to experimental and light music (Novomesto and Light Summer Kazantip.Nu & Happy, released by "Legkiye" in 2006, Planet Izhevsk and Ambient 2003 from "Kama Records", Exit to the City–3 ("Cheburek Records" and so on), as well as three solo albums, the last of which ("Soothing Collection No. 3") was released by "Legkiye" in 2006. Mombus's pieces have repeatedly been played on radio stations and TV channels in Europe, America, and Russia; they were highly appreciated by Artemy Troitsky and Andrey Gorokhov.
The album Le Printemps en Octobre includes tracks from previous albums, recorded with musicians from Bacillus Orchestra, as well as new tracks recorded with Polish jazz singer Natalia Groshak in Melbourne.
