The Untold Legend of Ninja Tune
Клубные российские · 29.03.2007
"Everything comes to an end, even the twentieth century," is currently written in capital letters on the official website of DJ Food. The twenty-first century begins - but even in it, this music will definitely not be redundant. *Ikra* hosts iconic people from the catalog of the cult label Ninja Tune. DJ Food is, surprisingly, not just one person, it is rather a symbol of quality, a top-notch brand. "Writing for DJs" was invented in the early 90s by two founders of Coldcut together with friends-colleagues Patrick Carpenter and Kevin Foakes; the five discs of their series *Jazz Breaks* are a brilliant example of virtuoso work with music snippets, merging the unmergeable into a colorful tapestry, a juicy and enduring blend of hip-hop and jazz. And it only gets better: powerful numbered albums; mixes and remixes; the status of the most talented DJ project of modern times. Currently under the guise of "DJ Food" hides one Kevin Foakes - but even alone, believe me, he does not lose to his former colleagues; he plays fast and accurately. *Ikra* is hosting a special event: Food is coming together with another important person from Ninja Tune - Darren Knott (aka DK). They are producers of the radio show *Solid Steel*, which at one time contributed to the breakthrough of the new electronic culture into the world at large; now they are playing together in Moscow. Anything can happen, be it classic funk (Food is currently involved in creating a tribute to the late James Brown), independent black hip-hop, or original tracks; the main thing to remember is that no one in the world spins records better than these people.
On March 31st, Saturday, starting at 00:00, *Ikra* club presents a performance by Dj Food vs. DK (Solid Steel, UK), advance tickets - 400 rubles.
