Nicola Conte. AcidSwing 2003
Клубные российские · 30.07.2003
On July 31, at the venue эМосква-Римэ Martini will present the work of DJ, the visionary behind the Schema label, and musician Nicola Conte. Boldly combining acid jazz with lounge, 60s swing, and classic jazz, Nicola Conte earned himself a reputation as the father of Italian acid jazz with his very first album.
Nicola Conte is known worldwide as one of the most stylish, subtle, and educated musicians of the new generation. In his homeland, Italy, Nicola Conte is seen as a key figure of the new jazz: thanks to him, the average visitor to a Roman or Milanese club understands what distinguishes Miles Davis from ragtime.
Nicola Conte, DJ and producer of the famous Schema label, composes music inspired by old school jazz, bossa nova, and swing. The result is a talented and unconventional acid jazz, allowing one to feel equally comfortable on the dance floor and while watching a retro cinema series that often accompanies Nicola Conte’s performances. The art of updating jazz standards is Nicola Conte's forte. Few can convincingly transform a childhood favorite jazz composition into a relevant hit suitable for both large venues and private parties.
Nicola Conte's first solo album, Bossa Per Due (2001, Jet Sounds in the USA), attracted intense and quite favorable attention from critics and fellow musicians. Remix tracks from this album were released by Kruder & Dorfmeister, Gilles Peterson, Basement Jaxx, St.Germain, and Thievery Corporation. It is worth noting that, in addition to Nicola Conte's performance at the prestigious Brazilian Electronica Festival, his live performance took place at the legendary jazz festival in Montreux.
The second release Jet Sounds Revisited (2002, Schema) is interpretations of Conte's works by electronic maestros and resembles more of a standalone album than a remix collection, with contributions from Nuspirit Helsinki, Les Gammas, Thievery Corporation, Kyoto Jazz Massive enhancing its popularity.
