New Saturdays at Mix

At the Mix club, there are new Saturdays now. Instead of 'the taste, smell, and color of the night,' there will now be techno on Saturdays or 'Sub.Technics.' The essence of the change of the sign does not change: the magic of apartment afterparties and refined musical taste plus new industrial decor and other 'mechanical' gimmicks. The first 'sub-technical' party will be opened by the artist from Cologne, M.I.A., who fiercely played at 'Gorod' last New Year's Eve. She was remembered not so much for her set as for the angular girl with a plastered arm up to the elbow, knocking back vodka behind the DJ booth: slim, broken arm, and very drunk eyes. Apparently, alcohol did not allow her to get to Mix on the night from December 31 to January 1, and she regretted it terribly. It is worth noting that M.I.A. is a very popular name among DJs and musicians. Experienced promoters can list about six different 'Mias' and remember a label with the same name. One bright-red DJ Mia resides in Kyiv, while the widely known other M.I.A. - a Sri Lankan nymph from London - is currently performing grime rap as a warm-up on Gwen Stefani's American tour. Our, that is, German M.I.A., Michaela Grobelni, is called the enfant terrible of Cologne. She really looks like a disheveled sparrow, but that does not stop her from running things. In 2000, M.I.A. together with her friend and comrade Falco Broesiper opened their own label Sub Static, where our familiar artists - Bryan Aneurysm, Matthew Johnson, John Spring, and Pan/Tone - found shelter. Michaela's latest album 'Schwarzweiss' ('Black and White'), released on Sub Static, turned out to be somewhere mysterious, somewhere sad, truly black and white, and in the canon of contemporary techno-minimalism. She plays the same music behind the turntables, albeit occasionally intensifying the speed and pressure. After all, M.I.A., though small, is a pretty feisty sparrow.
