New album Portishead - Third
Музыкальные зарубежные · 28.02.2008
The release date of the new album by the group Portishead – Third has been announced. The release is scheduled for April 28. This event has been eagerly anticipated in the music world for an incredibly long time. On the eve of this loud premiere, it would be useful to remember the preceding events since the release of their last album, dated 1997.
In 1999, Russian audio pirates released a compact disc that supposedly was the third studio album by Portishead called Pearl. In fact, under this cover, the album Empathy by the British group Mandalay was released. Additionally, pirates released a disc called Alien, which was also not a new album by Portishead: it represented a compilation of rare tracks (b-sides) released only on singles, along with several unidentified tracks not authored by the group. Talks about the appearance of a new album began in the early 2000s when the new American label of the group, Island Records, announced the beginning of preparations for the third studio album. At that time, Jeff Barrow informed the press that the musicians would most likely record in Australia, specifically in Sydney. Barrow and Utley managed to scout the situation on the green continent and concluded that they couldn't find a more suitable place, but Jeff's eternal perfectionism prevented them from completing the work. After a long silence, in 2005 Barrow announced that work on the new record had begun, but this time the musicians were again unable to finish it. Real data about the album's release began to leak into the press only in the autumn of 2007, and in December the group performed a new program at the Bristol Academy. And now, after 11 years, following an incredible number of rumors, speculations, and, if you will, promises, the tracklist of the third album, its duration, and most importantly—the release date have been made known.
