New Guest at Illusion Reality

New guest 'Shanti': DJ, producer, and music lover Jerome Sydenham, one of the most influential figures on the English dance scene. To establish a label like Ibadan Recordings, one truly needs to have Jerome Sydenham's biography. The son of an Englishman and a Jamaican woman, born in Nigeria, Sydenham attended school in England until his teenage years and then moved to New York in the early 80s. This cosmopolitanism and echoes of musical cultures from the shores of Africa and the Atlantic left an irresistible mark on all his subsequent activities. Starting from the mid-80s, he actively participated in shaping the underground dance scene as both a DJ and a promoter. In 1986, he organized his first party in Philadelphia, becoming a resident at the legendary New York club Nell by 1987. Impressed by Sydenham's abilities, the major label Atlantic Records invited him to a leadership position in the A&R department. Throughout the first half of the 90s, he worked with artists like En Vogue, Gerald Levert, Simply Red, and Das EFX. Meanwhile, Sydenham realized his ambitions in the underground scene by releasing albums of such relevant projects at that time as Ten City and Michael Watford. In 1995, feeling the need to establish his own company, Sydenham founded Ibadan Recordings - retaining the rights to the early house production of Ten City. Sydenham and his partner Joe Claussell invited house guru Kerri Chandler to collaborate, forming the backbone of the famous label. With the launch of Ibadan, Sydenham challenged house standards. The compilation 'Language' (2000), released by him in collaboration with Joe Claussell, featuring tracks by Claussell, Sydenham, Chandler, Marc Cary, and Dele Sosimi, is considered a cornerstone of deep house music. In 2001, together with Kerri Chandler, Sydenham released the exceptionally talented work 'Saturday', and with Dennis Ferrer, he recorded exceptional tech-soul tracks 'Sandcastles' and 'Double Penetration'. Sydenham's range as a DJ is eloquently showcased in his 'Space Lab Yellow' compilations: from tracks by The O'Jays and Michael Watford's 'Michael's Prayer' to the techno classic 'Rhythim Is Rhythim'. The series was developed in collaboration with the prestigious London club Yello, where Sydenham is a frequent guest.
