Autumn project: Facetin’Art by Kurtis Mantronik

Only a few musicians in our time have had as much influence on modern music as Kurtis Mantronik. Kurtis was born in Jamaica, but raised in Canada and England. He first dabbled in music in the early 80s. Working at the renowned music store DOWNTOWN RECORDS, he recorded and released his first DJ set 'Fresh is the world,' which became his first hit. Following this, the store owner of Downtown Records introduced him to producer Will Sokolov from the legendary Sleeping Back Records. As a result of this acquaintance, Kurtis was able to release several of his mixes that included compositions of dance music classics such as 'Bassline' and 'Cold Getting Dump.' Starting as a DJ in the early 80s, Kurtis later ventured into remixing and composing. He recorded and released several compositions based on styles like Hip hop, electro, R’n’B, dance, and Rock. Later, Kurtis signed a contract with Capitol Records, where he released some of his most popular singles, such as 'Gotta Have Your Love' and 'King of The Beat.' In 2001, Kurtis decided that the House music world needed a touch of Funk and released a couple of tracks on 'Distinktive Records' titled HARRY’S GRAND KIDS and compilations 'Mantronik' under the name 'That's my beat,' which were released on 'Soul Jazz Records' in 2002. Last year, Kurtis released an album on 'Eye Industries' titled 'CHAMONIX,' including 77!! compositions. The second track from this album was included in a mix by Norman Cook (Fat Boy Slim) at Big Beach Boutique and shocked with its enormous success among the crowd of 250,000 people, leading Norman to release this composition under his own label 'Southern Fried Records.' This composition was re-released in mid-June with added vocals and played on radio stations such as: Radio 1, Capital, Galaxy, GWR, Vibe, Beat 106, Forth, Kiss, and MTV Dance. Currently, apart from DJing and producing music, Kurtis is involved in remixing popular artists like Linda Clifford, Liberty X, S Club, Isaac James, Junior Senior, and Barbara B.
