From Disco to Hip-Hop

Maintaining the image of the most fashionable and diverse festival in Europe, this summer Sonar will bring fans of cutting-edge hip-hop face to face with admirers of old disco and various other old-school genres, conservative adherents of Detroit techno with reformers-minimal techno. The sharpness to everything that is happening will presumably be given by a considerable list of real heavyweights in each category. What’s there to say, if in just two days - Friday and Saturday - at the SonarPark venue will perform the samurai of hip-hop DJ Krush, Rahzel & DJ JS-One, as well as the Japanese project Afra & Incredible Beatbox Band. There won't be a shortage of Diplo and A-Trak, who toured with Kanye West as the tour DJ. At the same venue will be the performance of DJ Vadim and his project One Self, already familiar to the Moscow audience. But this whole list wouldn't be complete without the artist that any promoter dreams of obtaining. We are talking about American DJ Shadow, who with his new project DJ Shadow presents The Hyphy Movement feat Keak Da Sneak, Turf Talk and Nump, has completely intrigued all fans of white hip-hop.
For those who cannot imagine a day without old good disco, Sonar has presented the main gift - the performance of the legendary and perhaps the most important disco group from America. The revived Chic together with Nile Rodgers will perform under one sky with Jamaicans Linton Kwesi Johnson and Dennis Bovell Dub Band. As a worthy addition to the old-school déjà-vu - a special set from Kenny Dope, who, as it turns out, isn’t just proficient in soul, funk, and vocal house. It turned out that Mr. Vega's partner in the duo Masters at Work harbors the warmest feelings for the old-school 80s hip-hop. On the list of other hoarders, Nightmares on Wax and Jiles Peterson with their tons of rare vinyl. Another category of "pathetic imitators" proudly names their music pop-rock and intends to indulge in practicing with guitars and synthesizers - Goldfrapp, Infadels, Hot Chip, and Superthriller.
And let’s not even mention Miss Kittin, Jeff Mills, Laurent Garnier, Herbert, Dave Clarke, Richie Hawtin & Ricardo Villalobos... What can be said about them - they are magnificent as always!
