First ALT+E Fest in Moscow

On July 16, the ALT+E Fest - a festival of technological arts and alternative sources of energy - will open at the Central House of Artists (ЦДХ) in Moscow. The festival's curatorial concept is an attempt to look differently at alternatives, including alternative energy. The proposed format is far from trivial, as the festival's organizers place emphasis not only on visual and auditory aspects but also on the theoretical foundations of ecological awareness. The festival will feature installations (autonomously functioning technical constructions executed within an artistic concept), interactive installations (technical systems interacting with the audience) powered by alternative energy sources provided by the festival's partners. The first real circuit-bend workshop in Russia is expected from the group 'R-AW' (Germany), where attendees will be able to purchase radio components on-site and under the guidance of facilitators build their own electro-musical instrument. There will be master classes on programming and electrical engineering in contemporary art, as well as lectures on topics such as 'Alternative Energy, Renewable Energy Sources,' 'Alternative Worldview, New Media Philosophy, Community,' 'Big Village,' 'Free Software and GNU Movement,' 'Globalism and Anti-Globalism,' 'Live Hacking and Hacking as a Method of Life Creation,' 'Alternative Cultural Movements of the 20th and 21st Centuries.' The festival will kick off with a concert of experimental electronic music accompanied by original video art, partly powered by alternative or renewable energy sources. The renowned Blackbox event will conclude the festival - an anonymous concert in quadraphonic sound in complete darkness. Many well-known musicians, whose names and faces the audience won't recognize, are invited to participate.
