The Afisha Picnic, now in its fourth year, is one of the best summer events that gathers the most attractive people of Moscow. This year the Picnic takes place in a new location - Kolomenskoye. Here, several thousand people will swim in inflatable pools, drink milkshakes, play Scrabble and frisbee, watch movies, and listen to music. This year, the Picnic will feature performances by Icelandic band Mum, French band Hushpuppies, English band Clinic, the group 'Mumiy Troll,' and 29 other wonderful musicians from various countries. Philip Dickey, founder of the American band with the most Russian name Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin, said, 'I generally think that the best art in the world comes from Russia. So our concert in Moscow - this may be the best thing that has ever happened to me in my life; a dream come true.' For the first time in Moscow, an incredible culinary program will be presented at the Picnic: French crepes and Lebanese snacks, rotating lambs and a chocolate fountain, sandwiches from Isaac Correa and seafood from Anatoly Komm, Churchkhela and Suzdal pickles, watermelons, melons and fresh fruits from the Dorogomilovsky market. Katya Drozdova, owner of the 'Simple Things' restaurant and curator of the gastronomic area, said, 'This year I am creating all the food at the Picnic, I want everything to be like in childhood, as if you came with your parents to the zoo or Gorky Park.' Young designers' clothing at the Picnic this year will be modeled and shown to others not by professional models, but by Afisha readers. For relatively little money, you will be able to change your own wardrobe, as well as buy handmade leather bags, transformer dresses, plastic jewelry, Audrey Hepburn and Amelie earrings, hand-painted T-shirts, and more. Yana Melkumova, journalist and curator of the Picnic's fashion zone, said, 'We have invited emerging designers to the Picnic and want people to buy their clothes not because of a well-known name, but because they make really good things.' There will also be a beauty zone called 'Pink Paradise,' and a new rave in the Idle Conversation tent, adult cartoons from the 2x2 TV channel, a Nintendo Wii gaming tournament, a museum of Soviet arcade machines, and the only screening in Russia of the film 'Zidane: A 21st Century Portrait' with a soundtrack by the band Mogwai on a large screen. And, of course, outdoor games: football and volleyball, foosball and Twister, table hockey and kites, a school for astrologers and contact juggling, mahjong and Scrabble, fingerboards, and much more. Nastya Kolesnikova, a clothing designer, said, 'There are no festivals like this in Russia. And this year I know what will happen, so I am a bit scared in advance of the scale of the event.' The Afisha Picnic is a Moscow summer outdoor festival. It first took place in 2004 on the main alley of 'Luzhniki.' In 2006, over 23,000 people attended the Afisha Picnic held in Krasnaya Presnya Park. This year the Picnic will take place on July 28 in Kolomenskoye.
