Portable - a cute guy with dreadlocks

Alan Abrahams, also known as Portable, grew up in South Africa, where he led a quite fun life with his sisters, spending nights in underground clubs listening to soul and hip-hop. His own music was inspired by Chicago house music that he once heard in a club: Alan began his music career by combining African rhythms with house beats. At some point, Alan felt how much the geographical remoteness of his home country from the world's cultural centers hindered him. In 1997, he moved to London. There, the talented artist started releasing music on the labels Context and Background Records, and in 2002, founded his own label Sud Electronic. It was in London that this cute guy with dreadlocks started composing music that brought him fame. Portable's intricate, somewhat dark tracks combine elements of house, minimal techno, dub, and broken beats. Alan performs in a variety of alternative London clubs, as well as internationally. He could be heard at Paris's Batofar, once he performed in London alongside Farben, Juan Atkins, and Andy Vaz, his biography includes a micro-tour of Japan with Background Records, and participation in celebrating the 20th anniversary of The Wire magazine in Paris.
