Presentation of the book "Goa Syndrome"
Музыкальные российские · 11.03.2007
On March 5, the publishing house Ad Marginem will release "Goa Syndrome", the first Russian novel written in Goa and about Goa. It is both quality entertainment prose and an unconventional guide to today's popular resort, the customs of modern India, and places inaccessible to ordinary tourists.
"Goa Syndrome" is a novel about the right kind of vacation, implying complete immersion. Thus, while reading, the reader finds themselves on sandy beaches with dolphins and tasting local Kingfisher beer in exotic seaside restaurants, before arriving at the banyan tree under which the "Beatles" vacationed 40 years ago, at Goa trance parties and the Arambol carnival. They get acquainted with the new Indian youth in Dolce&Gabbana, driving red "Skodas", a merry international crowd from North Goa, as well as the new Goan colonizers - Russians from the village of Morjim. The Russian thread of the novel is closely intertwined with the Indian one. The second main character, Lakshmi, runs away from her despot uncle Pramod, who wants to force her into marriage, and accidentally gets involved in a major cocaine purchase deal. The authenticity of the novel is enhanced by Indian folk songs and phrases in Hindi.
The film rights to the novel belong to director Pyotr Buslov ("Bumer", "Bumer-2"), who plans to release a film of the same name in 2008. Currently, the script is nearly finished, negotiations are underway with producers, including Bollywood. Casting will begin in the spring of this year and will be interesting because it is an international story, featuring not only Russian actors but also Israelis, Nigerians, Indians, English, and Poles. Filming will start in the fall of 2007 and will take place in Goa, Moscow, and Bombay.
On March 15, there will be a presentation of the book "Goa Syndrome" at the Moscow club "Shanti". For this event, the club will release discs with a DJ compilation from the author and open a themed exhibition of his photographs. Sasha himself will arrive from Goa to play a DJ set, along with his friends and characters from the novel - the band Diggadgy, which will perform live at the presentation. This will be repeated in the Kiev "Shanti" on March 17.
Thus, "Goa Syndrome" is not just a book, but a whole project that unites cinema, music, and literature. The novel is just the beginning. The syndrome is evident. The epidemic begins.
Reviews of the novel:
"Sukhochev is a delicate and chaste romantic, believing that great and bright love can be found without falling into a drug coma." GQ Magazine
"Sukhochev very convincingly conveys how the human sensation of paradise is composed of the simplest, essentially, components: a dozen sunsets on the ocean shore, plus one night of dancing in the middle of a bamboo grove, plus a hundred kilometers joyfully overcome at the scooter's wheel... How Sukhochev managed this is known only to Shiva with Ganesh." Afisha Magazine
"Sasha Sukhochev managed to accurately convey the magic of Goa, the last place on Earth where anything is still possible. He created on paper what I still have to figure out on film. Now I am also afflicted with the 'Goan syndrome.'" Director Pyotr Buslov ("Bumer")
