Prommer & Barck and Jazzanova - Unique Performance in Shanti

On April 2 at the Headz.FM party in Shanti, a live performance by the duo Prommer & Barck will take place, a new project from two stars of the European electronic jazz scene, with a combined track record of over half a million sold records and disks, and twenty-five years of continuous experience in music, DJing, collecting, studio work, and producing behind them. Who are Prommer and Barck?

Christian Prommer is one of the key figures at the Munich label Compost Records, who along with Ronald Appel made music for the Fauna Flash project back in the last century, participated in Truby Trio with Rainer Trüby, and with Peter Kruder in Voom:Voom. He has also produced such musicians as DJ Hell, Kim Sanders, Marsmobil, and of course, the brilliant project Drumlesson, where he reinterpreted all the classics of techno with jazz musicians - from "Jaguar" and "REJ" to "Trans Europa Express" and "Strings Of Life".

Alex Barck is a key figure in the Berlin team Jazzanova, the club face of the group and the entire Sonar Kollektiv label. He has more than anyone else been responsible for the musical policy of Sonar Kollektiv, compelling many to change their understanding of the phrase "nu jazz". Barck’s DJ sets are a different story, to which all the most enthusiastic epithets apply. In short, these two old friends, DJs, producers, collectors, have created an album that exceeded all expectations.

The debut record of the project with the tracks "Pictures Of The Sea" and "Gladys Knight" was released last year on the now super-popular label Permanent Vacation, which specializes in "new disco", however the album of the project goes far beyond what is commonly described with the now hackneyed epithets "cosmic" or "balearic", representing an intriguing and very diverse work that nostalgically links to and logically continues all that was glorious in the European eclectic-electronic-jazz culture of the last fifteen years. Disco, krautrock, deep house, folk, jazz, rock, ethnic, Chicago house, and Detroit techno, ambient, and soul - elements of all this are present in the duo's work, whose members clearly did not chase after trendy fashions - they create trends themselves.

The album "Alex & The Grizzly" promises to become one of the best records of the year; the duo’s love for music has already been vouched for by old friends Peter Kruder, DJ Hell, and Giles Peterson, who invited the duo to be one of the headliners of his festival "Worldwide". Among those playing their music in sets are Osunlade, Carl Craig, Jerome Sydenham, Joey Negro, DJ Harvey, Kyoto Jazz Massive. The record will be released in April on the new label Derwin Recordings, which will be managed by Prommer and Barck themselves, a fact that promises a lot of interesting things. The Moscow presentation of the album "Alex & The Grizzly" will take place on April 2 in Shanti at the Headz.FM party - Christian Prommer on drums and Alex Barck on vocals - a real show program with a continuation in the form of a Jazzanova DJ set, which should not be missed.
