Perlon - One of the most prestigious labels on the modern dance scene, the German label 'Perlon' was founded by Markus Nikolai and Thomas Franzmann (aka Zip, aka Dimbimann) in the mid-1990s in Frankfurt. Now based in Berlin, it releases works by artists such as Ricardo Villalobos, Akufen, Pantytec, Soulphiction, Jabberlaw, and many others, including Markus Nikolai and Thomas Franzmann themselves and their projects. Markus Nikolai: 'We always wanted Perlon to be a kind of 'family' label. That's why all the artists who release on it are our friends'... Markus Nikolai, born and raised in Frankfurt, has music in his genes. He learned to play several musical instruments from his grandfather, a conductor. Despite mastering the piano, guitar, bass, drums, and percussion, he most of all enjoyed playing the accordion. In the early 1980s, as a teenager, he fell in love with electronic music and became a skilled DJ. But his most significant accomplishments came in the field of producing dance music. In 1992, Thomas Franzmann (a.k.a. Zip) joined one of Markus's projects, 'Bigod 20' (which also included vocalist Jean-Luc De Meyer). Shortly after the project was formed, their album 'Steelworks' was released by 'Los Angeles’ Sire/Reprise', featuring tracks and music videos used in the films 'Cape Fear' and 'Sliver'. Markus released his second album 'Supercute' with Zip in 1994. From 1998 to 2000, Markus hosted 'Peak Club on Sundays' parties in Frankfurt, quickly becoming one of the city's most popular events by bringing in the best DJs. In June 2000, Markus released 'Back', his first solo album on the 'Perlon' label. In addition to music, Markus Nikolai has been involved in producing his own line of eyewear and owns two optical shops in Frankfurt. Thomas Franzmann (Dimbimann aka Zip) - co-owner of the 'Perlon' label, DJ, producer, composer, and talent scout. His projects are always current and sometimes ahead of their time. He also collaborates with Sammy Dee in the 'Pantytec' project. Ricardo Villalobos has compiled an impressive discography since the early 1990s, releasing many works on respected labels such as 'Playhouse' and 'Perlon'. Born in Chile and raised in Germany to escape Pinochet's dictatorship, he developed a passion for house music. He gained expertise in percussion while traveling the world, infusing his music with a depth that belies its apparent simplicity. Besides his solo projects, Ricardo has recorded with Dandy Jack as 'Ric y Martin' and with Luciano as 'Sense Club', and was involved in Markus Nikolai's project 'Hombre Ojo.' Ricardo released two outstanding mixes - 'Love Family Trax' in 2002 and 'Taka Taka' in 2003. His album 'Alcachofa', released in 2003 on 'Playhouse', is perhaps Villalobos's masterpiece to date. His second album, 'Thé Au Harem D'Archimède,' was released on 'Perlon' in 2004. Ricardo Villalobos has performed at Germany's most important clubs and events and at many major events and raves in South America.
