Lo Recordings has announced the sale of almost all copies of the debut vinyl release of the Russian project Id10ts – In The Gold Room.
iD 10 TS [IDIOTS] is an experimental electronic project of Russian origin. There are three of them. Andrei (OID) Antonets, known for the project Alexandroid. The vocals on the record belong to Pavel Kamakin, who is also a promoter of the capital club "16 Tons" and director of the international production company Underground Ministry of Culture. Finally, Ilya Shapovalov, recognized by Rolling Stone as the leading guitarist in the country and also involved in the notable techno project Masha Era (the authoritative labels Pro-Tez and Kompakt). In other words, three self-sufficient creative units in one band – that's already quite a lot. A new musical world, psychedelic guitars, electronic rhythms, and unusual vocals are the hallmark of ID10TS, which, according to the Western press, evokes associations with Brian Eno and Talking Heads. One of the most famous techno remixers DJ Koze paid attention to the original track, along with Bar25 resident Pablo Beaner and a considerable number of producers from around the world - some of the remixes included in the release are:
01 In The Gold Room (ID10TS)
02 In The Gold Room (DJ Koze Vocal Mix)
03 In The Gold Room (DJ Koze Inst Mix)
04 In The Gold Room (Easy Changes Remix)
05 In The Gold Room (Alla Farmer Remix)
06 In The Gold Room (Beaner Remix)
44100Hz: Who is the author of the cover for the record?
Andrei 0id: The person without whom this record probably would not have appeared is my good friend from Copenhagen, Leila Zama. We have been friends for several years, and she periodically visits us in Berlin with friends, or I visit them. The basis of what later transformed into the track In The Gold Room was recorded by me when we returned tired from Bar25. I sat down to spin the knobs on the synthesizer, and everyone passed out, and that probably would have been the end of it because I was already completely zonked out, but suddenly Leila appeared and said that it was unreal cool. People like her inspire. In the early 90s, Leila was one of the first organizers of trance parties in Copenhagen. She has recently started creating her amazing psychedelic collages and is even planning an exhibition soon. I found it very important that her visuals were used for the album art, as she essentially was the muse in the creation of the composition. After that spontaneous recording, I returned to Moscow, where I hadn't been for a long time, and my dear friends and I met outside the city in a beautiful place near Domodedovo, where in celebration, Ilya recorded guitars on top, and Pasha in one take – a wonderful vocal part to the lyrics of Oscar Wilde.
44100Hz: Are you satisfied with Koze's remix?
Andrei 0id: We met him at the Mio club in Moscow about four years ago. I had no idea who he was at the time, so I was casually chatting with him over a mug of beer about how boring most modern electronic music is and so on. That they all copy each other… He completely agreed and then said, "Well, I've got to get back to the turntables." I was so struck by the energy of his set and his incredible charisma and sense of humor that I was left speechless. After the party, we decided to go back to my place. A friend was sleeping in my apartment, who neither answered the phone nor the doorbell, and of course I had left the keys at home. At some point, Shtefan got bored and started picking at the door of the nearest Zhiguli "kopeyka" with a flyer from Mio. Somehow the door opened, and he happily settled into the driver's seat, inviting me in. I grew to respect him even more but talked him out of that idea, explaining that people might misunderstand such humor.
Then we started communicating, occasionally exchanging messages. When I played in Hamburg at Golden Pudel, he came to the club with a bunch of his records as a gift. We chatted until morning, although he had to leave for a tour. Then, at some point, he wrote that he's launching a new label Pampa and would like to release one of my tracks that I had sent him. I hope that will happen soon. The success of Pampa has exceeded all expectations. As Shtefan said – he has the Midas Touch – that's true!
When we wonderfully created In The Gold Room, I thought that the only label that would be interested in releasing it on vinyl would be Lo Recordings. They have never hesitated to release the most unexpected experiments and do not follow the trends. Additionally, our project Alexandroid released an album there in 2004. In general, I wrote to John at Lo and told him about the idea of releasing vinyl with the original version and remixes. He replied: "Great idea! Go for it!".
And then I decided to discuss it with Shtefan. I told him, of course, I already know how cool you are and how crazy your schedule is, but we recorded a song and are thinking about releasing it on a small independent label. Money, of course, is not on the table for now. But if you’re interested... Strangely enough, he replied immediately and asked me to send him the multitracks. About six months later, on Christmas, he wrote that he was drunk at his parents' house and finally managed to find the right sound. After a while, he sent the remix itself – and we were, of course, floored...
Unfortunately, only Koze’s remix was released on vinyl (this was insisted by his manager). The other remixes were released in digital format, although all deserve to be issued on vinyl.
44100Hz: How do you feel about the success of the release?
Andrei 0id: We did not expect the vinyl to sell out so quickly. It’s nice. And, of course, we were pleased to see ourselves in second place in the hundred bestsellers on whatpeopleplay.com. However, we understand that we owe this to Koze, his talent, and fame. Nevertheless, we recorded a track that is outside any trends of modern dance music, we did entirely what makes us happy, and again, if the original version hadn’t appealed to Shtefan – he would not have remixed it for any money. It’s still early to talk about success, but I believe that for a debut release, it’s all quite good.
44100Hz: Are there plans for new releases?
Andrei 0id: Yes, of course, we are preparing a second EP, which we intend to release in the same way, with the original and remixes. Several interesting and well-known artists have already agreed.
