Клубные российские · 20.05.2003
The 'Exotica' association presents an album in the lounge-electro-funk style by musicians from St. Petersburg performing under the ironic name YaD. The YaD project is a trio of talented jesters: Oleg Sacipirov (aka DK), Andrey Gorsky, and DJ Trauma ('trauma'). In 2000, they recorded their first track 'Seven Steps', which laid the foundation for their collaborative work. Among their achievements, one can find music for fashion shows, presentations, remixes of 'rock and pop monsters' (Bi-2, Ariana, SPORT, Babslay, VIA Gra, etc.). The handsome Gorsky stars in music videos, while DK writes articles for one of the adult magazines. They directly associate their debut album with trash aesthetics: 'Entertainment music, or music for relaxation, to which we undoubtedly relate ourselves, is trash in one way or another. The concept of IDM, in my opinion, is completely unfounded. Music is either dance or intelligent. Easy is trash music with kitsch elements. However, we not only have no relation to the light music in the generally accepted understanding of this phenomenon (Pizzicato 5, Montefiori Cocktail, etc.), but we also would not want anyone to view us through the prism of easy. Although our record is good for parties and spending time with nice people' (Oleg Sacipirov). According to the musicians themselves, the album is influenced by two main covert agents: club music of the 60s - early 70s (Benny Paul, Mickey & The Soul, Al Green, etc.) and French pop music of the 80s (Joe Dassin, Paul Moria, Jean-Michael Jarre). Hence, the allusions from the soundtracks of Reservoir Dogs, Snatch, Blow. Cinema and film music in general have greatly influenced YaD, from Sydney Lumet and Brian de Palma to Tarantino and Guy Ritchie. They write music like ordinary mortals drink water or breathe. 'We live, go to parties, perform at parties, create music. Then we make remixes, play somewhere again, create music again. Everything happens naturally. Some tracks are discarded as unsuccessful, some do not come together at all. So gradually, from those we like, we have accumulated about 20 and decided to release an album' (Oleg Sacipirov).
