The lineup of the Sonar festival in Galicia (Northern Spain) has been expanded with another world-class artist. And how! Meet Canadian DJ and producer, living legend of world techno music and a key figure in the latest electronics of the last two decades, Richie Hawtin, aka the famous Plastikman, aka F.U.S.E., Circuit Breaker, Cybersonik (whom he has never appeared to us); a tireless experimenter and many-sided champion of electronic culture on the path to discovering its hidden potentials.
At Sonar in Galicia, Richie Hawtin is expected on June 18th with a spectacular show at the peak of technological capabilities, in which music, light and video will merge together. It is noteworthy that this performance will be the artist’s only appearance at Spanish festivals this year. Richie Hawtin will present an impressive mix of his own tracks and tracks from other artists, and the audiovisual elements will be a natural extension of his own understanding of the modern electronic live laptop.
Richie Hawtin's unprecedented talent was discovered in the early '90s when he worked on his first releases as Cybersonik, F.U.S.E. and Plastikman. Over the years, its scale has grown and established itself, and even in a variety of musical guises.
Undoubtedly, there is a special breed of artists - fixing their eyes on the future, they think, feel and create one step forward, their art is ahead of its time. Achieving fame and recognition among a wide audience, they are able to change the foundations of their own genre, expanding its boundaries and identifying new perspectives. Richie Hawtin is certainly one of them. His recent release of Arkives, a deluxe deluxe box set featuring all of Plastikman's albums and audiovisual works, has once again cemented his well-earned status as a leading expert in understanding the evolution of techno music.
In recent years, with the rise of German minimal techno with his residency in Berlin, Khotin has been torn between massive club parties and his tireless quest for new musical technologies. For example, he carefully studied the possibilities of Twitter (Twitter social network) as a tool for communication and exchange of impressions between DJs and their audience of listeners. And we all remember his live concept for Plastikman’s return to the stage from the tour, in which Sonar-2010 was one of the most important events.
