Robert Owens - the Singing DJ

"If God could sing, his voice would sound like Robert Owens's." Robert Owens began his career as a DJ on the evolving Chicago House scene in the mid-80s, but in order to stand out from all the other DJs, he decided to position himself as the first singing disc jockey. At the age of 20, Robert, along with his partner Larry Heard, under the pseudonym Fingers Inc, released several compositions that remain dancefloor classics even today: 'Mystery of Love,' 'Never No More Lonely,' 'Can You Feel It,' and 'The Path,' featuring Robert's beautifully church-polished vocals and heartfelt lyrical style. In his creative development, Robert embarked on two different but intersecting paths as a singing DJ and as a solo artist, composing and singing his own songs not only during his performances but also as a guest artist. Robert established his own studio and focused on writing, releasing, and collaborating with musicians on material that reflected his desire to step away from the traditions established by artists during the existence of house music.
