David Carretta to Congratulate Mio on Its Second Anniversary
Клубные российские · 03.09.2004
David Carretta gained worldwide fame as the founder of electro-techno, achieving this status after releasing his debut album in 1996 on the legendary German label Gigolo Records. Soon, far from elusive dreams and passions, always unpretentious and intuitive, Carretta founded his own label, Space Factory.
David Carretta was born in Marseille. His creativity was long ignored by everyone. He made his first steps in new-wave music using the first synthesizers, sequencers (Korg MS 10 and MS 20), and one of the new samplers (Ensoniq Mirage). Practically all industrial and synthetic bands of the late 80s and early 90s, especially Front 242, Depeche Mode, D.A.F., and Throbbing Gristle, influenced his first group Art Kinder Industrie.
Under the anti-iconic name Calyptol Inhalant, David Carretta released his first EP on Harthouse Records in 1993 - at the very beginning of the techno movement. At that time, he lived in Toulouse and gave only live performances.
His melodies sound harsh and metallic, his compositions are straightforward, on one hand, they have the form of a 'song mood,' on the other hand, they have a punkish anger. David has remained unchanged over all these years: his voice remains vicious and distant, the bass - acidic, the lyrics - either in French or English, with a strong accent, as if he takes great pleasure in preserving all the peculiarities and defects of his complex personality.
During a concert tour organized in 1995 by one of his friends, David's life suddenly changed: Helmut Geier aka DJ Hell noticed him and released Carretta's debut album Innerwood on his label Gigolo, which eventually prompted Hell to establish International Deejay Gigolo. Since then, the electro wave, which originated in Munich - the shelter of the Disko B label and the homeland of David's hero Giorgio Moroder, has gone significantly further.
In 1996, Carretta met Caroline Herve aka Miss Kittin, with whom he recorded a cover version of Gary Numan's song 'Down in the Park,' released on Random in the UK.
David's first three EPs on Gigolo regularly made it into Groove Magazine's list in Germany. In December 1999, he released his debut album Le Catalogue Electronique with Chicks on Speed, whom David met in Munich at Le cauchemar, Electric Indigo at Automat, long before it became fashionable to work with them, and Neuropolitiks became number one in Sven Väth's playlist. David Carretta's world tour from Berlin to Chicago covered countries such as Argentina, Italy, Japan, Russia, Brazil, Austria, Belgium, Switzerland, Turkey, Finland, England, Portugal, and of course, France.

The sound of projects released on the Gigolo label did not always correspond to Carretta's ideas. In addition, Hell gradually began to move towards the world of fashion and media, which somewhat contradicted David's restrained disposition.
In 1996, Carretta began collaborating with musicians from his hometown of Marseille - DJ Olive and Virtualian (Thrust Records), playing dance music styles. Machine Is Breeding - one of the first 12-inches on the Thrust label, pays homage to the electro music that David listened to before and heralds its imminent return to the dance floors. In 2000, David worked with Renaud Campana Pornflake Rec. They attracted international artists such as Electric Indigo, Mark Broom, John Tejada, Ferenq, Worker Poor, or Stephane Manceau. In 2001, Carretta released his fourth 12-inch on Gigolo - Domination EP, with the track Vicious Game, which again made it to international electronic charts.
Until recently, Carretta only gave live performances, neglecting another way of distributing electronic music - a DJ mix. After several months of training, David began performing as a DJ in clubs at parties around the world. The logical result of this process was his CD mix Electro Dash, released in 2002 on the Model label. On it, David presents his most significant electro and techno influences to the public - the sound that shaped his musical technique.
In late 2002 - early 2003, David Carretta created his own label, Space Factory, and recorded performers with different styles, such as Gigi Succes, Worker Poor, H. Smithfield, D.I.P, and Exchpoptrue.
