Sasse at Modern Smoking Party

The next guest at the Modern Smoking party at the 'Solyanka' club this Friday, April 10, will be the Finnish artist Klas Lindblad (Sasse/Freestyle Man). Since the late 80s, Klas has been DJing, starting with pop music and eventually managing one of the first house clubs in Turku, Finland. At the same time, he began creating his own music, and soon his first release came out on Sahko/Puu under the name Freestyle Man. Klas's early works are considered cornerstones of the Scandinavian house sound, and his original 12-inch releases are still in demand. In 1996, he founded the Moodmusic label. Concurrently, the first release 'Sasse Presents...' came out – a four-track record heavily influenced by NYC and Detroit house. In 1999, Sasse left Finland and moved to Frankfurt to start his residency at the renowned Robert Johnson club. His 'Finnish First' parties took place there from 2000 to 2003 and were very successful, after which he decided to move to Berlin. In 2003, the Sunday Music label was born, a platform for releasing music by Sasse, Henrik Schwarz, and other musicians. At the same time, Sasse launched Must! Records for more obscure disco, italo, and Chicago house releases. In 2005, he built his favorite studio BlackHead in the eastern district of Berlin, Prenzlauer Berg, with Ewan Pearson and Filippo 'Naughty' Moscatello and began working on his first solo album. The album 'Made Within The Upper Stair Of Heaven,' which received very positive reviews, was released on Moodmusic in 2006, and the singles 'Soul Sounds,' 'Loosing Touch,' and 'Up To You' made waves on dance floors worldwide. In 2007, the collaboration result of Tracey Thorn with the production team of Sasse, Darshan Jesrani, and Ewan Pearson was the track 'It's All True,' released on Tracey's album 'Out Of The Woods.' The single included remixes by Martin Buttrich, Kris Menace, and Escort, becoming one of the main melodies of the summer of 2007. What is Klaus up to today? During the week, he is literally tied to his chair in the studio, working under one of his many pseudonyms, but starting from Friday, the artist returns to his first love – DJing. Over the past five years, Klaus has made a name for himself behind the decks at almost all significant house clubs in the world. Twice a month, Klaus performs at the Berlin venues Berghain/Panorama Bar and Weekend, where he is listed as an honorary resident. Recently, Sasse finished work on his second studio album titled 'Toinen' ('second' in Finnish), which was released in October 2008 on Moodmusic.
