Showcase of the German label Raster-Noton at Syntek Lab
Клубные российские · 26.10.2010
On October 29th, Syntek Lab will take place at the Central House of Artists on Krymsky Val as part of the musical program of the Crosscontact New Culture Festival. The main stars will be artists from the respected German label Raster-Noton along with interesting Russian musicians.
Raster-Noton has established itself as the most influential German label of experimental electronic music. Their activities go beyond the traditional boundaries of a record label and also include work on publications, artistic and sound research. The common idea among all label participants is an experimental approach — uniting sound, art, and design.
Raster-Noton is also known for its collaboration with the Minus label and with Richie Hawtin in particular. The label's catalog consists of over 100 releases from artists and art figures such as Alva Noto, Atom TM, William Basinski, Frank Bretschneider, Byetone, Ivan Pavlov aka Coh, Carl Michael von Hausswolff, Ryoji Ikeda, Ryuichi Sakamoto, and Mika Vainio.

Read more about the participants:
- Byetone - Well-known to all of us from last year's Syntek Lab, one of the curators of Raster-Noton and a member of the trio Signal. Olaf Bender (also known as Byetone) recently expanded his discography with a new full album Death Of A Typographer. The monotonous, rarely changing, sharp beat pulses with unique energy, inviting you on a leisurely journey accompanied by insistent bass drums. Very German electronic music — yet it's not just 'music for dancing'. Death Of A Typographer is not devoid of the microsound aesthetics that Raster-Noton has been cultivating for many years. Music that perfectly balances on the edge between danceable techno and aesthetic minimalism.
Additionally, at the beginning of the party (at 9:00 PM), Byetone will give a lecture on the history of the label, his personal approach to sound and visuals.
- Robert Lippok - A German producer, one of the founders of To Rococo Rot, responsible for the electronic sound of the group. He engages in audio-visual experiments on his own, writes music for the theater, and participates in media art festivals.
- Grischa Lichtenberger - Hip-hop looseness, anti-social tendencies, piercing whistles and hums, pensive and pseudo-pensive moods, sinuous snake-like melodies, gusty noises, sudden non-square noises, daring unpredictable endings of tracks, a storm of metallic algorithms along with the crackling of pots and pans — this is the little that reveals this follower of Autechre entirely.
- Masha Era - A musical performance created by Masha Era together with Russian musician Ilya Shapovalov — electronic music with elements of neo-cabaret. The musical miniatures are accompanied by an original video series and theatrical techniques: stage decorations, symbolic items, costumes, makeup, and movements of the heroine - all together create a sense of a single space for the viewer, penetrating into non-being, where subconscious premonition of life seems more evident and significant than everyday reality.
- Chasma (Nervmusic) - Attention, premiere! A joint project of Denis Kaznacheev, better known to a wide audience for his participation in the techno duo Easy Changes, and Oleg Buyanov, who releases abstract beat music under the moniker Ol. Settling in a country studio half a year ago, the guys have been busy writing the music that both their creative souls have long been drawn to - electronica, ambient, and click’n’cuts. Beyond fashion trends and time, this music can be listened to endlessly.
- Zabelin (Hi, Freaks!) - A promising young DJ and musician from St. Petersburg, releasing music on the Hamburg label HiFreaks.
