At the next Space It Out session in Shanti, quite rare guests of club venues, the Moscow projects Casual Underground and Bikini Bottom, will perform. The members of Casual Underground joined together over 10 years ago, creating a true underground creative laboratory for producing audio and visual material. The laboratory staff has changed over time; however, its constant members remain Alexey Seldom and Stas Khimich. Raised on records by Basic Channel, Underground Resistance, and Kraftwerk, the members of the project continue to follow the spirit of authentic techno. Perhaps this is why the collective is characterized by a special commitment to classic analog sound and a nostalgic attachment to old synthesizers.
Meticulous work on sound and video sequences, an organic combination of rhythmic musical pulsations and video performance transforms each performance of Casual Underground into an exciting journey through techno landscapes.
Members of the Bikini Bottom project, musicians and DJs Andriyesh and Artem Anrilov, also plan to play together quite rarely. Despite their serious approach to music, the duo treats the presentation of their creativity with irony. The name was born thanks to the cartoon about the adventures of SpongeBob SquarePants. "We like the cartoon," explains Anrilov. "SpongeBob is a kind character, and Patrick too."
"Bikini Bottom is swimwear, the bottom of a bikini. Overall – it's cool," Andriyesh laughs. In addition to this project, Andriyesh is involved in at least three more: solo, MuSpaceRocket with DJ Cross, and a separate story, rock project Dsh-Dsh!.
Bikini Bottom is an example of what two professionals, equally passionate about their work, can achieve. The intuition of an experienced DJ and the experimental approach of a techno producer can set the dance floor afloat across the waves of all shades of techno. In a bikini or not, it doesn't matter.
