On October 19 in Moscow, the young London-based group Spektrum will perform, playing funk in an electro-post-punk style. Spektrum gained fame thanks to Tiefschwarz's remix of their song Kinda New. They are described as reminiscent of Kelis, Missy Elliot, or Grace Jones collaborating with punk or industrial bands. The core of Spektrum consists of two unique musicians - Gabriel Olegavich, the grandson of the Russian composer Prokofiev, who uses his patronymic as his surname, and the Nigerian singer Lola Olafisoye, who has successfully performed at London clubs such as Cargo, the 100 Club, Jazz Cafe, Blow Up, and 291 Gallery, known for her collaboration with Peter Gabriel. The group's first album titled 'Enter the Spektrum' was released in 2004 on the German label Playhouse. The album received rave reviews from connoisseurs like Mr. Scruff and Gilles Peterson. Soon invitations followed for live performances in clubs and festivals worldwide - adding drums and bass guitar to Lola's vocals and Gabriel Olegavich's electronic sound. Interestingly, the group has not yet reached Russia, although Gabriel visited Moscow and St. Petersburg in the summer of 2001 following his family's emigration to England in the early 1970s. It is also worth mentioning that Gabriel, like his father and grandfather, writes and performs classical music and has already released several records in England. He is known for his DJ sets, where he mixes classical music with modern funk and R'n'B.
