Stefan Bodzin in the Mix

Born in 1969 in the countryside of northern Germany, Stefan Bodzin soon became passionate about music, primarily inspired by his musician father, whose studio housed a huge number of magical machines like the ARP2600, Memorymoog, Polysix, and many others (modern composers know them only in the form of software synthesizers). It’s no surprise that Stefan was impressed by the ideas of electronic music from childhood and founded several of his own projects where he played piano and bass guitar. But it wasn’t long before he realized that none of his bandmates (nor he himself) could play as well and accurately as the legendary Korg M1, and he decided to replace all 'real' musicians with 'virtual' machines in the studio. At 17, he bought his first computer, an 'Atari', and the story began...
After moving to Bremen, where Stefan continued to build and improve his studio, he connected with the experimental theater scene and began expressing his musical visions by composing soundtracks for several plays (including works for the prestigious Bremen theater Goethe and the famous Austrian theater 'Dancing Icarus').
But Bodzin never lost his love for analog and electronic music. He began creating his first club tracks, which immediately passed the dance floor test courtesy of his brother Oliver, who was a house DJ at the time. Around the same time, Stefan met Oliver Huntemann from the music group Humate, and this marked the beginning of a strong friendship. Over the next 10 years, they produced artists such as Marc Romboy, Thomas Schumacher, Elektrochemie, and H-Man, and made a huge number of remixes for musicians like Binary Finary, Frankie Goes To Hollywood, and Sinead O’Connor. Moreover, Stefan created two successful solo projects, Condor and Boca.
In December 2004, his friend and techno musician Thomas Schumacher asked Stefan to produce the Electrochemie group - a project of Schumacher and his girlfriend Caitlin Devlin, and several of his own tracks. The result of these collaborative efforts, released on Get Physical and Spiel-Zeug Schallplatten labels, exploded on the club scene, largely due to Stefan's talent.
In 2005, Mr. Bodzin focused on his own career. His solo single 'Caligula / Marathon Man', released on the Systematic label in December 2005, became the first step onto the stage, eliciting strong interest in the artist. The next step was no less impressive – a collaboration with Marc Romboy that resulted in their Luna EP, released on the Systematic label, and the tracks 'House Ya' and 'Jigsaw' from Romboy's debut album 'Gemini'.
The list of labels that Stefan worked with in 2005 and 2006 resembles a 'who’s who' on the newest electronic scene: Get Physical, Datapunk, International Deejay Gigolo, Systematic, Giant Wheel, Spiel-Zeug Schallplatten, Confused, Dance Electric, and Great Stuff. Currently, Mr. Bodzin is working on creating his own label and also wants to resume his career as a DJ and 'live' artist. He’s not stopping, as the journey has just begun... And pay close attention to the labels on records – Stefan Bodzin's name might just be there.
On November 25, Saturday, at Mix Club, at 06:00, Stefan Bodzin will perform.
