The new hero of 'Subelectronica,' American techno producer Stewart Walker, is known as a citizen of the world. Moving between the New and Old Worlds, he has significantly expanded the geography of his releases. Among the labels proudly releasing Stewart Walker's work are Matrix, Mille Plateaux, Tektite, Tresor, Deepfried, Mosquito, and Force Inc. His tracks are perfect for both the dance floor and home listening. Stewart Walker began showing his love for music at a very young age, writing his first songs at five and firmly deciding to become a rock star. Years of guitar and piano lessons created a solid musical background. College years were marked by raids on record stores followed by nights by a guitar amplifier with the reverb turned up to full. Around the same time, electronic music entered his life through college radio. Stewart Walker started recording techno-pop, industrial EBM, and house programs on a tape recorder. In 1992, he bought his first drum machine and spent hours experimenting with beats. His fascination with electronic sound turned into an obsession. He started collecting music using a sequencer, giving birth to his first techno tracks. His first releases on Detroit's Matrix Records came in 1997, followed shortly by his first European release. As his records gained popularity with DJs, Stewart Walker started receiving offers for live performances. At that time, he had no DJ experience, only modest studio equipment - and the energy and live support of the crowd from his very first concerts. Releases on renowned techno labels like Tresor, Force Inc., and Richie Hawtin's m-nus imprint quickly followed. With each release came more respect and exotic tour destinations. After receiving an offer from booking agency Sven Vath - Cocoon, the best clubs in Europe started chasing after him. In 2001, Stewart Walker launched his own label, 'Persona,' aiming to bring back the lost vitality of techno. The label focuses not only on the DJ but also on the listener; for Stewart Walker, techno music still exists primarily in live interactive concerts with their fresh, sharp, cutting-edge sound. In 2003, Stewart Walker moved from Boston to the livelier Berlin, where he closely collaborated with labels like Kitty-YO, Tongut, and Tuning Spork, recording remixes, improving his German, and recording the downtempo album 'Grounded in Existence,' the Russian premiere of which will take place at 'Shanti' as part of the 'Subelectronica' project.
