Harsh Festival of Dour

4 days, more than 200 participants from all over the world, 6 stages, several dozen musical styles. Literally translated from English, the word "dour" means "severe" or "gloomy." But in fact, Dour is a city in Belgium where the international alternative music festival will be held for the 19th time from July 12 to 15. The word “alternative” should not be taken literally either. The event is very unusual and combines completely different musical styles. In short, be it rock or techno, idm or reggae, the point is that each of the announced musicians is doing an experiment in their genre.
Tickets are already on sale and you can purchase them for all 4 days at once, or for any day. Organizers promise inexpensive parking and camping, so you can live in the thick of the action!
In 4 days of Dour you can get acquainted with the whole variety of modern instrumental and electronic music. And since this festival is experimental in nature, many groups will present a symbiosis of genres. There is probably no better chance to expand your musical horizons.
The American indie scene will be represented by two of its varieties - heavier (The Rapture) and lighter (The Thermals).
It will be possible to listen to French and American rap, with each performer preparing an original performance. For example, French rapper James Delleck will appear on stage together with idm musician Detect, and Swiss industrial band The Young Gods together with American hip-hop experimenter Dalek will demonstrate what alternative hip-hop is. Electro hip-hop also exists, and the French Les Cautionneurs will prove it. Brooklyn is represented by MC KRS-One, and the famous gangsta rappers Wu-Tang Clan will come from New York almost in full force.
IDM can be heard performed by brilliant experimenters from the English label WARP - Autechre and Clark.
Fans of calm music like chill-out and ambient will be treated to a performance by American DJ Shadow.
If you really want to know what experimental music is, then don’t miss the abstract hip-hop from the French Abstrackt Keal Agram, be sure to listen to the indie punk band from California Erase Errata, a group called Explosions in the Sky (these Americans play instrumental post-rock), the French High Tone, whose music combines such seemingly incompatible styles as dub and drum'n'bass. We cannot ignore the great experimenter Venetian Snares - this Canadian is almost the only idm musician who also works in such hard styles as breakcore and industrial. And finally, as for noise, there will only be one band producing it at the festival - Wolf Eyes.
The list of participants in the upcoming event also boasts an abundance of electronic musicians. Four techno DJs have been announced: Agoria and Vitalic will tear up the dance floor on behalf of France, and the “king of techno” Dave Clarke and Luke Vibert will come from England, differing from their colleagues in their special, intellectual approach to electronics.
The French label Ed Banger will give festival guests the opportunity to see and hear 5 of their electro-projects at once - DJ Mehdi, Justice, SebastiAn, Uffie & Feadz and of course the helm of the label Busy P.
Electro-dancing will continue, thanks to the German duo Digitalism and London-based DJ Erol Alkan. And of course, no self-respecting clubber will sit still while the great English DJ and musician Goldie plays drum'n'bass and jungle.
Various types of electronic music will also be presented at Dour by Adult, Andy C, dDamage, Goose, Grooverider, Katerine, Skream, Stereo Total, The Cinematic Orchestra and Tiefschwarz.You can order tickets and study the detailed list of participants on the festival website.
