The news that has been stirring European news blocks lately is that the Swedish electronic duo The Knife has announced on their official website that they are working on a new album, scheduled to be released in 2012. The dark irony in the spirit of The Knife cannot help but come to mind that if, as the Mayan calendar predicts, we should expect an Apocalypse in 2012, then the new album of the extravagant Swedes could be a soundtrack to it. On a more serious note, the planned release will be the duo's first full studio album since the brilliant "Silent Shout" in 2006. In 2010, the duo did reunite, but not for a new album, but for a new project when they were asked to write music and libretto for the opera "Tomorrow, in a Year" dedicated to the 150th anniversary of Charles Darwin's work "On the Origin of Species," which influenced all modern science. The experiment became another success for The Knife. However, devoted fans never stopped hoping for an album. Well, perhaps now is the time to change trembling hopes into euphoric anticipation...
