Musician and producer Tiga emerged onto the electronic scene about 15 years ago. International fame came to him in 2001 when he released his most famous hit Sunglasses At Night. Canadian by origin, the son of Goa DJ Dr. Bobby, Tiga spent his youth in India. In the early 90s, he returned to Montreal and, struck by the decline of the local club culture, started hosting small parties that brought back meaning to the 'glassy eyes' of jaded partygoers, infusing the atmosphere with the eclecticism of the past, abundant in acid prostitutes and crazy Indian gamblers. Since then, Tiga has been involved in organizing numerous major dance events, opened the first electronic music boutique in Montreal, and founded the label Turbo Recordings. Throughout his career, Tiga has explored several musical styles, rooted in techno and acid house, ventured into breakbeat in '94, added a touch of trance in '95. Currently, Tiga plays electro, electroclash, while not forgetting about house and techno. His sets are dominated by a juicy clean sound, music with a subtle touch of glamour that has all the makings of mainstream but never quite became one due to the scarcity of masters like Tiga in the modern electronic scene. Tiga claims to be playing techno at this stage, referring to this style as a 'unique umbrella that can cover and shelter, well, anything.' He identifies himself with the modern electro camp, led by DJ Hell and The Hacker, although his music is undoubtedly softer. Tiga finds inspiration everywhere: 'It's like a love affair with some, let's say, pop music, and we immediately turn around and bring that pop back into the music we love - into techno.' Passionate about music, Tiga has already stirred up plenty of intrigues, resulting in several singles, mixes, and a large number of remixes for Alpinestars, Linda Lamb, Crossover, FC Kahuna, Cabaret Voltaire, Telepopmusique, Felix da Housecat, Fisherspooner, Danni Minogue, and Soft Cell. But Tiga gained the most fame with his own tracks Burning Down and Sunglasses At Night, the 2001 hit, still relevant today, created in collaboration with Zyntherius (Jori Hulkonnen). In 2002, Tiga recorded a mix for the DJ Kicks series on the K7! label, which also released the legendary duo Swayzak. This masterpiece by Tiga breathed new life into electro and diversified the stagnating synthetic pop. His next notable work was the mix American Gigolo, released on the label International DeeJay Gigolos. Tiga not only united already-electronic classic artists such as Vitalic, Miss Kittin, The Hacker, and DMX Krew but also added his sound, more sophisticated and darker, with deep textures and, consequently, more dancefloor-oriented. Tiga's current tight touring schedule takes him across America and Europe. 'We live in the Age of Cruelty,' he says, 'and every day I fight to find my place in it. All I know is that I can offer the world thousands of adventures through Dance and Light.' dj-cafe Mio presents Tiga - a gift for all young divas on March 8th!
