Moritz Von Oswald Trio Soon in Moscow

The Refletion series at Shanti club, dedicated to various genres of techno music, is preparing a true musical delicacy this time. The headliner of the March session (March 20) will be one of the world's very few electronic music supergroups. Each member of Moritz Von Oswald Trio individually deserves the status of a super musician. Max Loderbauer has a long and successful career in the band Sun Electric, where he, together with Tom Thiel, created ambient techno. Their album 30.07.94, recorded live at the Love Parade festival, is still considered one of the best ambient records of modernity. Additionally, Loderbauer, in a duet with singer Chica Paula, releases inditronic music under the name Chica And The Folder on the Monika Enterprise label. Finnish experimenter Vladislav Delay is also a well-known figure. In the late nineties, he started with cold and minimalist techno that he released on Mille Plateaux and Chain Reaction; later, he created the Luomo project, where he experimented a lot with vocals, balancing on the verge of sensual deep house and dance pop music for aesthetes. Recently, Vladislav Delay has fully immersed himself in ambient electroacoustic experiments.

Finally, the leader of this ensemble, Moritz Von Oswald, is one of the most influential figures in the modern techno scene. In the eighties, Oswald started his path as a drummer in the band Palais Schambourg, where Thomas Fehlmann also participated, and later, Oswald made history as the founder of the legendary Berlin label Basic Channel and as a pioneer of the dub techno genre. He has a dozen and a half projects to his credit, the most well-known of which are Maurizio and the collective Rhythm & Sound, where Moritz works with Mark Ernestus and Dominican ragga vocalist Paul Sen-Hiler. Recently, Oswald has been experimenting with academic classical music: two years ago, he released an album ReComposed, in which he presented his reinterpretation of well-known works by Ravel and Mussorgsky.

What can we expect from the collaborative activities of this extraordinary collective? On the recently released album Vertical Accent, you can hear the influence of each of the three participants; however, together they create something entirely new. This is techno, this is ambient, this is dub, this is electroacoustic; finally, this is avant-garde. Yet, none of these terms can adequately describe the works of this group. The sound of Moritz Von Oswald Trio is truly innovative.

Of course, in light of this occasion, the residents of Reflections have also prepared surprises. Shanti guests will be treated to a special set by the curator of the series DJ Dolshchik, as well as a unique live performance by Moscow musician Killahertz.
