This choice is not accidental, as the German program of the festival is part of the Year of Germany in Russia, supported by the Goethe-Institut in St. Petersburg. All artists will perform in St. Petersburg for the first time, with Kreidler making their debut in Russia.
Kreidler are one of the key bands in German electronic post-rock of the 90s and neo-kraut. They will present their new album 'Den' released on October 5 on the Bureau B label at the festival.
Jan Jelinek - a cult German electronic musician known for his unique approach to composing music. Jelinek will present his new album 'Music for Fragments' released on October 12 on his own label Faitiche at the festival.
Olaf Bender, also known as Byetone, is one of the founders of Raster-Noton, a German label known for promoting experimental electronic music. Byetone's live sets are filled with archaic beats, creating a hypnotic journey through sound and visuals in real-time.
Pantha Du Prince, the most influential project of German Hendrik Weber, will perform at the festival, presenting tracks from his third album 'Black Noise' released on Rough Trade Records in February 2010.
Jamie Teasdale, known as Kuedo, has transformed his sound to create a unique blend of rap, footwork, 80s synth soundtracks, and elements of post-dubstep.
Sølyst is the project of Kreidler drummer Thomas Klein, offering introspective electronic downtempo with precise percussion and futuristic cold motorik rhythm.
In the small hall, three artists who perform music on homemade and toy instruments - Toktek, Papa Srapa, ADMI, and Brinstaar - will perform.
TokTek is an eclectic electronic artist known for grand live performances consisting of delicate and fragile soundscapes.
Papa Srapa crafts a strange metaphysics of sound reminiscent of astral trance and ethnic shamanism using his unique homemade musical instruments.
ADMI is a creative group of musicians and artists who create music soundscapes with children's musical instruments.
Brinstaar uses guitars, modular synthesizers, shamanic flutes, and harps to create diverse soundscapes from chaotic noise to atmospheric melodies.
On October 24, the performances by Debruit (Civil Music, France), Jacaszek (Ghostly International, Poland), The Haxan Cloak (Aurora Borealis, Triangle, UK), Sun Glitters (LebensStrasse/Lefse Records, Luxembourg), and Thunderbird Gerard (USA-Germany) will take place in the large hall at the Sergey Kuryokhin Center.
About the participants:
Debruit will present his debut album 'From the Horizon', a culmination of three years of work, sampling old African videos and reinterpreting African melodies and rhythms, using synthesizers and drum machines.
Jacaszek, a creator of electro-acoustic music, will perform with clarinet and harpsichord, presenting tracks from his album 'Glimmer' released on Ghostly International.
Andy Stott, a British musician, cultivates a unique blend of dark, powerful dub-techno, bass music, and house, rewriting the history of techno music with Modern Love label.
Sun Glitters - the new project by Victor Ferreira, offers a blend of downtempo and broken beats, well-received by both audiences and critics.
Thunderbird Gerard, a New York-based producer, multi-instrumentalist, and 'Kerouac of the new hip-hop', will make his debut performance in Russia at the festival.
MAYГLEY - a young project from St. Petersburg - delivers powerful music filled with noisy guitars, restrained beats, and bilingual revelations.
Moa Pillar - the experimental electronic project of Moscow's Fyodor Pereverzev - creates a unique blend of ethnic music, medieval influences, and ambient elements.
On the small stage, All Blacks (St. Petersburg), ::vtol:: (Moscow), blablarism (Ukraine), and YBSTN will perform.
All Blacks from St. Petersburg create tender, powerful, noisy, and shimmering music inspired by the atmosphere of port taverns and taiga forests.
::vtol:: - a project by Dmitry Morozov from Moscow - focuses on interactive sound installations, combining engineering and sound research in contemporary art.
Blablarism - a mind-blowing project by Oksana Zmorovych from Kyiv - creates mysterious compositions reminiscent of minimal wave and lo-fi shoegaze.
YBSTN - an audiovisual project offering beautiful and complex music, accompanied by enigmatic stories from a parallel universe.
Over two days and nights, you will witness some of the most interesting representatives of electronic music, many of whom will perform in St. Petersburg and Russia for the first time. The 'Electro-Mechanica' festival is held at the Sergey Kuryokhin Center, supported by the Committee for Culture of St. Petersburg, Goethe-Institut, General Consulate of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Luxemburg Music Export, Polish Institute in St. Petersburg, and Adam Mickiewicz Institute (Warsaw).
