The Return of the Label Hooj Choons

UK Progressive label Hooj Choons is preparing to return to the dance music market in 2007. Few DJs working in this genre can be found without at least one record from this label. In its heyday, when UK progressive was at its peak, several tracks were released on Hooj Choons, leaving a deep mark in the hearts of clubbers. Compositions such as Space Manoeuvres' 'Stage One,' JX's 'Son of a Gun,' Energy 52's 'Café Del Mar,' and Lustral's 'Everytime' became gems of the genre and will be remembered for a long time. The label's logo, a funny little man behind turntables, regularly peeked out of the DJ bags of a huge number of disc jockeys worldwide. However, this did not save the label from closure. It became another victim of the crisis in club culture that happened in Britain several years ago. In 2003, the record company Hooj Choons and the shop bearing the same name simultaneously closed. But fans were not destined to mourn for long because some good news came - in early 2007, the label is getting revived! However, vinyl releases are currently not in the plans. For now, Hooj is releasing mp3 releases consisting of new remixes of old tracks and unreleased versions from the label's back catalog. You can download them on Beatport (http://beatport.com). The first release of the revived label was Medway's 'Resurrection,' originally released in 1998 and featured on the 'Global Underground Hong Kong' compilation, mixed by John Digweed. The digital release includes a new ambient dub version of the track, plus remixes by Chris & Kai and Delikate Imposters. If you want your track to be released on Hooj Choons, it's best to send demos right now, while they are still recovering from a three-year slumber.
