YouTube is recruiting its first online orchestra

YouTube has announced a contest for participation in an unusual symphonic orchestra. Professionals and amateurs of all ages and nationalities who play various musical instruments are eligible to participate. To showcase unique talents, one must perform a piece written for the contest by Chinese composer Tan Dun, the score of which is posted on YouTube, and upload their video recording.

A special jury and YouTube users will select the most talented finalists who will travel to New York in April for a joint performance at Carnegie Hall under the direction of renowned American conductor Michael Tilson Thomas. The submission deadline for video applications is January 28, 2009.
