Live performance by Asian Dub Foundation Sound System

Asian Dub Foundation Sound System's performance overturns the idea of what can be done with a couple of microphones and DJ turntables. The main thing is not to go smashing up McDonald's after their concert! As known, the heroes of the dance-ideological global polit-soc-protest, Asian Dub Foundation, perform in two line-ups: the full band and as Sound System. The full band performance that took place on September 16, 2005, will long be remembered by the guests of B2. Now the Moscow audience will have the opportunity to 'ignite' at one of the best MC shows in the world. Asian Dub Foundation Sound System is sometimes inaccurately referred to as an 'internal project of the group.' It's not entirely true. The fact is that Asian Dub Foundation was created and started specifically as a Sound System. The concept of 'Sound System' originated in the 1950s in Jamaica, from where it subsequently spread widely across the world. The term 'Sound System' often implies several DJs (or one DJ) sometimes together with MCs, performing a specific repertoire together or simply appearing as part of a group. When Aniruddha Das (Dr Das) - a teacher at Community Music seminars, teaching children the basics of musical art, and his student Master D (Deeder Zaman) started a joint project, it was nothing but a Sound System: Das was on the wheels of steel, Master D acted as the MC (he started rapping at the age of 9). After a few months, social worker, advocate for the rights of people of color, and DJ John Pandit (Pandit G) joined the sound system tandem. His appearance brought a meaningful and articulated concept of protest, and the idea of social struggle for interracial equality. They named the Sound System Asian Dub Foundation. A year later, guitarist Chandrasonic joined the trio, and consequently, the Asian Dub Foundation lineup became a real rock band. Soon San-Ji, Cuber, Ghetto Priest joined, while Master D left the group to engage seriously in political-social activities. After hundreds of concerts in an eight-member lineup, Pandit and Das decided to revive the initial minimalism, i.e., perform in a reduced lineup - Asian Dub Foundation Sound System. The absence of rock instruments focuses attention on DJ virtuosity and the wild drive and energy of the MC, which is actually where the group's success began. The Bengali ethnic poetry combined with Western electronics will appear in an enticingly explosive mix of hard breakbeat rhythms, dub basslines, forceful multi-voiced recitatives, and an atmosphere of powerful aggressive drive.
