Pathaan began his DJ career in the mid-nineties, playing alongside the legendary Talvin Singh at the London club Anokha. Pathaan is an outstanding artist. He takes pride in his Asian heritage, and his music is a unique symbiosis of Eastern and Western cultures.
In 1996, Pathaan achieved stunning success. By a happy coincidence, his set was heard by the iconic David Bowie, who immediately invited the young DJ to join the world tour in support of the album Earthling. Just a few months later, Pathaan, accustomed to playing in cozy little clubs for 200-300 people, was 'warming up' a 15,000-strong crowd of Bowie fans.
The next important step in Pathaan's career was the launch of his own label Stoned Asia, primarily focused on releasing self-titled downtempo, leftfield, and lounge compilations. The label featured well-known artists such as Thievery Corporation, Nitin Sawhney, Ursula 1000, Nicola Conte, Asian Dub Foundation, Bliss, and many others.
Pathaan gained even more popularity with the launch of the radio show Pathaan's Musical Rickshaw. Year after year, every week on Saturday night to Sunday morning, a huge audience of BBC Asian Network listens attentively to the magical sounds of beautiful and mysterious Eastern music.
