Bomfunk MC's

Bomfunk MC's is Raymond Ebanks and DJ Gismo (Ismo Lappalainen) performing with their group and break dancers. Ebanks represents hip-hop while Gismo focuses on funk; producer JS16 polishes their beats and mixes in the spirit of Run DMC versus Jason Nevins. Bomfunk notably opened for Run DMC in Helsinki in 1998. Ebanks was born in London but grew up in Finland, becoming a steadfast hip-hop promoter there. Gismo debuted as a techno DJ at 15, later shifting to soul, funk, and hip-hop. "When we met three years ago, we knew we had much in common. He loved funk, I was obsessed with old-school rap," Ebanks recalls. Their song "Freestyler" propelled them to the top of Scandinavian and Dutch charts. With heavy radio rotation and climbing sales, Bomfunk MCs transcended local superstar status, touring Sweden, Norway, and Estonia. Their hypnotic video received MTV and television rotation across VIVA!, ZTV, and TMF. An April-May promotional tour through Holland, Belgium, and Germany solidified their success. Their second video "B Boys Fly Girls" began rotation on MTV Russia.
