Colder—the moniker of French graphic designer and video director Mark—emerged in 2003 with an icy, minimalist post-punk sensuality that critics hailed as "the dance project of the 21st century." His aesthetic combines minor disco, tranquilizer electro-rock, and glamorous post-punk, influenced by Joy Division, Morphine, Suicide, DAF, and Vincent Gallo. An established figure in fashion (working with Kenzo and Comme des Garçons), Mark released the album "Heat" in 2005 on OutPut Records. His live debut at Paris's Elysée Montmartre was followed by a 6,000-person audience at Sónar in Barcelona and performances at the Transmusicales Festival in Rennes, Montreal Electronic Groove, Electraglyde in Tokyo, plus tours with The Rapture and Liquid Liquid. Major European publications—NME, The Observer, Dazed & Confused, Music Week, Rolling Stone, Les Inrockuptibles—call him "the main indie-electronic phenomenon." Rumored to compose alone in his Parisian bedroom, Mark is an introverted, eccentric figure whose infernal stage theatrics and mysterious persona transform each live concert into a new enigma.
