GMS emerged in 1995 in Amsterdam, founded by three Dutch DJs—Riktam, Bansi, and Sebastian Claro—who were already renowned trance performers invited to play parties worldwide almost every weekend. After working in friends' studios and teaching themselves production, they built their own equipment and began writing music. In 1996, Sebastian departed, leaving GMS as a duo occasionally joined by Shanti, Riktam's younger brother. For GMS, music is a means of self-expression and energy release that resonates with both themselves and the dancefloor; they make good music and let audiences label it as they wish. In 1997, they relocated to Ibiza, Europe's most musical and club-oriented destination, which became their major creative inspiration amid abundant studios and venues for testing new tracks. In 2000, Riktam and Bansi co-founded the Spun label with Seth Hoffman and Xena, debuting with "GMS versus Systembusters." Beyond their signature psychedelic trance, they experiment with House, Drum and Bass, and commercial music under different names. Their studio "The Laboratory" remains constantly active through collaborations including Systembusters (GMS + DJ Rossi/Lotus Omega), 1200 Mics (GMS + Raja Ram + Chicago), and Soundaholics (GMS + Campo Chelli).
