Kode9

Kode9, also known as Steve Goodman, is a pioneering figure in contemporary electronics and founder of the cult dubstep label Hyperdub. Born in Glasgow, he began DJing at 16 and relocated to London in 1997, where he became instrumental in establishing dubstep as a major electronic music genre. As a radio host on the legendary pirate station Rinse FM, resident DJ at the renowned Forward club nights, and producer, Goodman revolutionized dubstep by introducing live vocal elements through collaborations with The Spaceape on his debut album Memories of the Future, creating what he calls the "poetry" of dubstep. He is also the director of the first official dubstep music video for his track "9 Samurai." Beyond music production, Goodman is an accomplished writer and theorist, contributing record reviews to British magazines Deuce and Knowledge, Fact, and American xlr8r, lecturing internationally on acoustic culture, and authoring a forthcoming book on sound warfare. He continues to perform and DJ at major London venues and has toured extensively across Europe, North America, and beyond.
