The reason for the project's emergence was Sergei's long-standing love for contemporary music (mainly of an unorthodox nature). The first creative attempts were realized in the hero city of Murmansk in the late 1980s within the creative association Strange Dreams, whose main directions were audio performances and amateur eight-millimeter cinema. Noise collages, music concretes, and ambient soundscapes were excellent soundtracks for the visual activities of the collective. The creative growth of project participants was facilitated by the breakthrough of the information blockade in the country and the consequent active absorption of various foreign audio materials; it turned out that there are a huge number of like-minded people in the world trying to convey their worldview to the listener. During his studies at the University of Petrozavodsk, Sergei met future participants of the electronic project ADD and immersed himself in the world of musical computer technologies. From 1991 to 1993, attempts were made to embody ideas in digital format and to familiarize himself with legendary Soviet machines – Polivoks and Alisa. Gradually, the need for a personal studio arose. In the late 1990s, having become a certified biologist and returning to Murmansk, Sergei began to navigate the vast northern seas, studying crab and shrimp populations. Finally, at the turn of the century, Sergei decided to revive his musical activities alongside scientific pursuits. Over two or three years, a home studio was assembled, modern approaches to sound extraction were mastered, and the experimental project Bacteria was conceived. In 1999, the Arkhangelsk magazine 'Results' noted the creative potential of the project by including one of the pieces in its audio compilation. At this time, Sergei actively collaborated with musicians from Murmansk groups Tyrlikhtar Skarly, Opisiktr, and Dymodely. The results of collective creativity were noted in numerous Russian compilations under various names: Mombus, Mombus and Bacteria, Mombus and Bacillus Orchestra.
