The "Stereoleto" music festival will take place for the eighth time this year. Eight years, like a beautiful sign of infinity of musical discoveries that "Stereoleto" year after year presents to St. Petersburg. "Stereoleto" is the brightest, captivating and truly summer musical event of the city on the Neva. Every year music lovers stay in the city for the summer to spend several warm nights in the company of excellent artists from around the world. Massive Attack, Air, Sebastian Tellier, Ladytron, Jimi Tenor, Jay Jay Johansson, Gotan Project, David Byrne, Telepopmusic, Yonderboi, Future Sound of London, ORB, Gus Gus, Sparks and many-many others performed in St. Petersburg for the first time thanks to the "Stereoleto" festival.
At the "Stereoleto" festival, completely different music always sounds: from rock and roll to electronics, from lounge to world music, and the only thing that unites the multitude of styles and directions is the relevance and quality of music. This makes the festival a unique phenomenon for Russia - in its significance for the cultural life of the country, "Stereoleto" is comparable to such European festivals as the Spanish Primavera Sound and Sonar, the French Printemps de Bourge, the German Melt. The festival's significance and status are confirmed by numerous professional awards.
"Stereoleto" is not just performances by world-famous performers whose arrival you've been dreaming about for a long time, but also an introduction to the most interesting Russian musicians. The festival gives young talents the opportunity to speak to a wide audience, performing on the same stage with recognized stars. This year, a large number of Russian artists will perform at the festival. We consider this a good sign: certainly, something is changing for the better on the domestic scene if more and more interesting young performers appear who have something to say. This year "Stereoleto" will be held over two days: July 10 - "Stereorise" and July 17 - "Stereoset".
Headliners for July 17: Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds.
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
"People think I'm gloomy. Well, maybe that's because I really did write a bunch of songs about death and other shit... I like to write sad songs", - Nick Cave.
Dark poetry, Old Testament motifs, rock and roll as religion... The eternally gloomy rock and roll prophet, flesh of the flesh of the Australian people of convicts, Nick Cave, as part of a European tour, will stage a show of light and darkness in St. Petersburg as only this greatest singer and poet can. His love for life through its darkest and dirtiest manifestations, such harsh vitality expressed in ballads, attracts and hypnotizes millions of fans for many years. His fourteenth album "Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!!" was released in 2008. It is this, along with his greatest hits, that Nick Cave will present on July 17 at the second session of "Stereoleto" - "Stereoset".
As for Cave himself, he needs no introduction. His fan base in Russia only grows every year. The fame of an underground rock idol came to Cave in the 1980s with the formation of Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds. Since then, the band's lineup has undergone numerous changes, and last year Nick Cave with members of the "seeds" created the Grinderman project - an elegant nod to the seventies and garage rock. There is an opinion that Cave's work develops by analogy with the Old and New Testaments: from fierce violent songs to lyrical ballads about God's word in the heart, from loud guitar to melancholic piano. But the fresh album by Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds "Dig, Lazarus, Dig!!!" is rock in its original form, a mixture of noise, blues and punk, guitar noise and screams, aggressive vocals and spartan serious lyrics. "Acoustic industrial" - that's how he characterized the new album. Oh yes! Nick Cave has moved away from his chamber songs and ballads, so don't expect melancholy and peace! His work in the 2000s is the honesty of music without a shadow of commerce, the work of a man who has reached musical heights and is not rushing for ratings, but professionally doing what he likes. And the fact that Cave is capable of delivering such a scorching, mind-blowing sound is encouraging - there's still fire and energy, which means rock and roll is alive!
Also at "Stereoset" you will be able to see and hear: Alina Orlova (Latvia), Husky Rescue (Finland), Larik Surapov, Ne-Gruzoviki, Re'sequence, Model Reign, Cassiopeia (Belarus), Dasaev, Mamanet (Ukraine), Postman of Nobel, 188910, 2deep, Om'Mas Keith (USA), Skymark (Spain), Adrian Dick (New Zealand), Sex Treats (USA, New Zealand, Spain, Russia), Nina Carlsson.
